I have worked with Tom Benjamin in France over the last four years. I have found him to be a real teacher which not many professional artists are. He explains the techniques of painting in a way that is understandable and exciting to all levels of student. He will paint with us on occasion and show different aspects of landscape painting which makes the subject much easier to understand. He has limitless patience and is excellent company. I always try to book one of his weeks.

I greatly admire Tom’s painting and have been attending his art classes in portrait, landscape and life drawing for several years. He is a wonderful teacher and has helped me to develop my understanding of form and colour using both his professional skills and by referencing works of other artists, of whom he has extensive knowledge. His friendly approachable manner and keen critical eye has enabled me to develop my own style and gain confidence to continue to push the boundaries in my own work.

Tom is not only an acclaimed artist, he is an outstandingly good art teacher.

I have attended lessons of his for many years, both half-day classes at the Paddock Art Studios in Lewes and at local places he finds for landscape painting as well as three-day courses at Cuckmere Haven, and am really impressed at how thorough his teaching always is.

In addition, he is unfailingly patient with his students, whatever their level, age, and ability to grasp points. I have never come across a teacher so generous in his attitude, and this is reflected in the large number of very grateful and loyal pupils of his. If I were able to, I would undoubtedly apply to attend his courses abroad.
