From iPad to Painting with Bella Green 11 - 18 Sept 2017

bella_grFrom digital sketchbook to luscious, real paint! These days, many artists of all ages and levels of experience are using iPads and other tablets and phones to create artwork. This practice has increased since the show of digital artworks by David Hockney at the Royal Academy in 2012 and digital painting events are being held at the V & A museum and all over Europe.

Digital devices add exciting new options to the painter’s toolbox and open up many image making possibilities. Whether your style is representational or more abstract, there is a lot more you can do with your iPad than just use it for photo reference.

img_1133This introductory course is for those who would like to understand how to use the iPad as a sketchbook for gathering visual information on location and capture inspiring moments quickly using digital painting. We will also look at converting photo references digitally, as an aid to make stronger compositions . In the studio, we will develop artworks from the digital studies in the medium of your choice. However, for the one week course, pastel, watercolour or acrylics are recommended.  For those who prefer just to keep working on the ipad that is fine too.

fullsizerenderFor those who would like to stay on for the 13 day ‘Colour and Composition’ workshop which follows, where there will be time for practical tuition and demonstrations, then the medium may be any you choose. For those who are complete beginners with the iPad there will be instruction in the basics you will need to use the iOS operating system and download apps. But please note, Bella is not familiar with the Android operating system of other kinds of tablets, however, the main app we will use -  Artrage works the same on both operating systems. The other app we will use is Value Viewer, is NOT available on Android.

Full information of what you will need will be sent on booking. If you are a painter who would enjoy using new technologies, come and take your iPad for a walk around beautiful Casole d’Elsa, and explore how this new tool can add to your creative process when you get the paints out in the spacious Verrocchio studios or at home.
