The workshops during August ’06 proved to be a success so we will be running them again during August ’07, this period will also be open to small groups. We will be welcoming some new tutors in 2007. Anne Shingleton is a painter/sculptor who trained in the famous Signora Simi. Her own work is an excellent advertisement for the Simi method. One of her students wrote “she demonstrated work and checked us all the time, and lo, it comes so easy now…the miracle is that those 3 days have given me the knack of oil painting which scared me stiff before”. Some of you will have met Ben Brotherton last summer in the capacity of artist in residence under the Juliet Gomperts scheme. He was such a success that we asked him to come back to teach. His youth brings a breath of fresh air and his philosophy is very much in tune with that of the Centre. Gus Cummings RA and Angela Braven will be teaching a course together. They are both very experienced teachers and well known painters.
We say 'arrivederci' and thank you to Robin Holtom who feels he has done enough teaching for the time being. Unfortunately, Vince can only manage one course with us this time because of family commitments.
Have a look at the new ‘Fast Track’ of the Rembrandt Controversy. An easily digestible Express Lane www.saverembrandt.org.uk allows you to get a 10 minute overview of the arguments. Don’t forget also to keep an eye on our Verrocchio site – do look at both the Verrocchio and the digilander sites as they are not quite the same. You may very likely find your own painting or sculpture on show on our changing ‘art gallery’. There will also be regular newsletters during our active season.
We hope to see you in the summer. Best wishes
